Issue 8: Lab notes

My next single is officially in the queue. šŸ„

Dearest reader,

I hope this message finds you in a moment of peace, and that youā€™ve been able to connect with something that provided you with a sense of inner expansion since we last connected.

I spent a good amount of last week working on the final mix, master, and cover art for a song thatā€™s now been submitted for distribution and which is planned to go live on streaming services next month on the 19th of May. The project is called ā€œWell Drained Slowā€ and is a personal, contemplative piece I wrote in the summer of 20201.

Every time I mix something Iā€™m reminded how much of a self-contained art form audio engineering is. Itā€™s a universe of its own.

I put a fair amount of what I hope translates as ā€œsoulā€ into this song, and Iā€™d be delighted if some of that has made it through in the final recording. Iā€™m excited for you to hear the track in its finished form and am curious to get a sense of how you receive it.

I shared the final mix with one personā€”my sisterā€”before submitting it for distribution. I am eternally grateful for the privilege of having access to her creative intuition, wisdom, and guidance as I continue this journey.2

Thank you for being here.

Love,
Reef

  1. Yes! Itā€™s the same track I alluded to in Issue 6. Iā€™m excited to report that this newsletter seems to be helping with release accountability thus far. šŸ˜ ā†©

  2. A few of you may have heard this song back when I shared the original draft in June 2020 while living and working in Boston. ā†©
